This Is An Amusing Halloween Activity For Kids - Weird Spiders

 

Here is probably one of our preferred Halloween crafts for kids. It is quick and easy, may be done with a crowd if needed, and also is a superb method to practice cutting and fine motor skills with younger children. Older children will be able to let their creativity take over and put together several very wacky Halloween spiders!

You will need:

Black paper

Scissors

Glue or sticky-tape

Funny eyes (optional) or pieces of paper and pens

Instructions:

Cut a rectangle of construction paper roughly 3 X 3 1/2 inches. Fold over the short side down almost an inch making a crease, and unfold it up again.

Turn the paper making sure that the fold is horizontal, then cut the paper in 7 straight lines up to the pleat to produce eight spider's legs. When working with smaller kids, sketch in the lines for them to practice cutting on. When working with bigger children, demonstrate to them how to produce the initial cut at the middle, dividing the area beneath the fold into 2 halves. Next demonstrate to them the way to separate each half again to make quarters, then the quarters making eighths. There's no need to be overly precise.

Next, place the spider around the child's finger and fasten with sticky-tape or glue. Detach the spider once more and decorate - either with bits of paper or else with funny eyes. Place the spider back on the finger and bend the legs into shape or you could wind them around a pencil.

Variations:

Dangle the spiders! Just cut a strip of black yarn (wool) and fasten inside the head of the spider with a small bit of sticky-tape.

Craft smaller variations of these spiders to adorn the tips of Halloween pencils.

Place small spiders around straws to decorate your Halloween table! Craft several bigger spiders and then distribute them across the table also.

Cut a small slit on either side of the spider's head and include a name card transforming these spiders into spooky place markers!

When the body of the spider is finished but also before decorating, wrap a black pipe cleaner round the head of the spider to provide a furry effect. The extending edge of the pipe cleaner could very well be coiled into a hook shape, which makes the spider painless to swing from shelves, doorways, and any number of eerie locations! Stick googly eyes on top of the pipe cleaner.
